For an athlete, the gluteal muscles are the engine that drives the car; they are the prime movers in a number of athletic movements like jumping, sprinting, and more importantly, braking and changing directions. For weekend warrior athletes or general fitness clients with weekday 9-5's, sitting down all day can wreck your posture and your lower back as you develop tight hip flexors and tight hamstrings. The best known way to counteract this problem is to lengthen your hamstrings and hip flexors through stretching, while at the same time strengthening the muscles of your backside. And for vanity's sake, all girls and guys want their butts to look ...

Let me preface this blog by saying that as a rule, I truly believe most personal trainers and fitness professionals enter this industry with a want a desire to help people. Most of us wake up early and go to bed late, and in the middle we train, motivate, and influence our butts off, sometimes at the expense of our own personal health. That being said, there are exceptions to to the rule. While the life of personal trainer can at times be taxing, the actual job itself is not hard. If you know the human body, how it is suppose to move, and how to problem solve, then the actual task of training someone is not difficult. This is why I sometimes cringe when I see a client doing something so obviously wrong, and frankly dangerous, under the t...

What inspired you to become a fitness professional:

I have coached and played sports my entire life including college. During my career, I experienced numerous injuries. I spent a lot of time in doctor’s offices and physical therapy clinics confused as to why these injuries kept happening. I also realized many players and teammates had or were suffered from the same afflictions. After having my knee surgery sophomore year, I decided to take a couple anatomy and physiology courses. I loved all the information they provided on theories of injuries and sports performance, which made me change my major the next year. And well, the rest in history!

What is your fitness routine?

6 day program: Even split conditioning and strength training.
Current strength program is a hybrid corrective with emphasis on early endurance. Conditioning with speed foundational work, circuits of corrective run form, ladders and basic metabolic cone circuits.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

Helping people discover the athletes inside of them. I enjoy breaking down the limitations they set for themselves by giving them an active lifestyle they didn’t think possible before.

What is one exercise no client of yours can avoid:

Single arm overhead Bulgarian

What activities do you like to do outside of the gym?

To this day I still play competitive soccer and basketball.

What’s a fun or interesting fact about you that most people don’t know about you?

I play the piano
